Do you keep a journal? what do you write/draw/ in it?
Ha! Yes I do keep a journal which is called Livejournal. Yes I do update it fairly regularly and I used to post arty stuff as well. My main regret is that there are fewer people here than there used to be, and most of them are currently moaning on Facebook about how they loved Lj but only one person on my f-list has actually come back and is posting again. *sigh* Still - I don't write for anyone else, I tend to write for me and I thank you if you read my boring old entries and I also thank you if you comment or 'heart' an entry.

I've met lots of people here at Lj and some of you I have even met in RL and I shall enjoy seeing again at [livejournal.com profile] writerconuk in September.  It's a good place.

It's been a nice sunny weekend on the whole and Mr Cee has cut the grass as it was cat knee high and they were getting lost in it! They have been frolicking around the garden all afternoon in the sunshine. We bought a jasmine plant for the courtyard garden at the front of the house which smells amazing and is covered in flowers. I have started to make the dragonfly one of my ex-colleagues has commissioned having seen the stained glass butterfly I posted photos of on FB. Tomorrow is Youngest Cee's birthday and so he and Mr Cee have the day off and we are going to a fancy restaurant for lunch.  Eldest Cee is coming home for Easter weekend so that's something to look forward to. /random

Life is good.

  • WriterconUK is going ahead again this year in September! 15th-17th to be precise. Keep any eye on the [livejournal.com profile] writerconuk comm for more details! I'm co-Secretary and I can tell you there are some interesting things planned already! If you'd like to come, keep the dates free, if you want to present a talk/discussion/presentation let the committee know :D At the very least - spread the word amongst your f-list please?

  • Memeage question 10: do you sleep on your back, side, or stomach? Probably all three during the night although I usually lie on my right side when I'm reading a book (probably because the bedside light is that side) and then end up on my left side to drift off to sleep.

  • I the NHS - I've been to the dentist and had a check up and a clean and polish! My dentist says my teeth are very good and I don't need to come back for another 6 months. I love the NHS because that cost me less than £20. If I'd been at my old (private) dentist I would have had to shell out at least £55 for the check up and £25 for the clean and polish. Affordable health care FTW!

  • My belly dance teacher has posted the video of our routine on Facebook. We look good! No, I'm not sharing..... ;)

My [livejournal.com profile] writerconuk weekend started on Friday as I set off to the railway station.  Mr Cee was working at home so I got a lift down to the station which was useful as there was torrential rain following a week of glorious very unseasonal sunshine and heat (I'd had to completely rethink what clothes I was taking with me!).  I made my way up to London by catching an earlier train which had been delayed but which came onto the platform as I arrived so I thought it was worth catching as my scheduled train was also delayed.  A quick hop on the tube got me to Euston from London Bridge station.

At Euston there was a hint that something wasn't right as the concourse was rather full.  Sure enough the rain had caused a landslip which in turn had derailed a train.  Unfortunately this affected the line between Euston and Coventry and it was touch and go whether I would actually be able to get to the con!

Under the cut as it got long.... )

Overall - the 10th anniversary event went well and the committee did an excellent job of organising everything.  I shall definitely be going again next year as it's just too much fun not to!  Do consider joining me - you won't regret it!!

I'm back!

Did you miss me?

As usual the [livejournal.com profile] writerconuk weekend was incredibly good fun!  We learned new stuff, laughed a LOT and met new people (four new recruits this year!).  There were 23 of us which was lovely as it meant there was time to talk to everyone and sit with different people at breakfast, lunch, dinner and in the chill out area.

I ate far too much (as usual), laughed until I was crying and drank lovely wine and delicious cocktails and talked and talked and talked.

I shall be writing up a proper account tomorrow, however in the meantime I leave you with a flying pig which was part of the new eclectic decor at the Coventry Ramada hotel this year.....

I've been looking back at the [livejournal.com profile] writerconuk get togethers that have gone on over the years as I've been designing the programme for this 10th anniversary year. For a small group, we've managed to have some fun meet ups and these can be summarised:

- Nottingham Novotel - Minimeet 2006
- Highgate Cemetery, London: 2006
- Nottingham Novotel—Minimeet 2007
- London Aquarium Minimeet 2008
- Reading: Midimeet 2008
- Coventry Ramada: Midimeet 2009-2010, The Event 2011-2016

It's pretty impressive isn't it? I do remember trying to organise some other meet ups between the 'official' ones and failing on one occasion as I broke my foot!

ETA: I have been reminded that we also went to the British museum at one point! I must look that up!

In other news there are a couple of cats who live next door, and one of them has obviously been making himself at home in the garden while our house was empty. His name is Spike and I'm dying to find out if it's because of Buffy! He's around 13 years old (I think!). Our new neighbours are very friendly and even popped in a card and a bottle of wine to say welcome to the road. We've also found out that the Dad is a Marvel fan.... I can see we have fallen amongst OUR people.... LOL!

However, I digress - Lady has been watching Spike from a distance for a couple of days and this afternoon he came a little closer. Lady was very interested:
It could be interesting when they are allowed out..... Spike is very like Zero in colouring, so we may end up getting very confused about who is in the garden.....

[livejournal.com profile] writerconuk is merely a hop and a skip away and there are 19 people coming for the 10th anniversary Event (see?).  There's still time to sign up if you want to come to Coventry and meet everyone.  It's small and friendly and fun - I'd recommend it! Plus there are cocktails and a banquet and dressing up (sorry, cosplay) if you feel like it, and also laughter and good times with fandom peeps.

In other news - we have been at our new home for over a week now, and it's been quite a slog getting everything sorted out and we are still missing wardrobes (so my bedroom is a bit of a mess!) but we are feeling very much at home now.  Mr Cee had today off and spent most of it putting shelves in cupboards and hooks on doors and as a result LOADS of things are now tidy.  On a positive note, I have been racking up the steps on my Fitbit by walking miles around the house!!

The chap who going to install a catflap in one of the glass doors of our bifold doors is coming this evening to measure up. Hopefully making the new pane of glass with a hole in it won't take too long as we've decided to wait until they have a catflap before we let them out for the first time. They aren't interested in 'outside' at the moment and are not rushing to the doors when we open them (which makes life easy), so a week or so more will get them ready to venture into their new territory.

Tippi is clearly not wanting to go out anytime soon!

Later there will be homemade pasta bake, garlic bread and wine! Happy Friday all! :)

I have just booked my train ticket to Coventry for the [livejournal.com profile] writerconuk weekend on 16th-18th September and I'm glad I remembered to do so as the price would have doubled if I'd left it much longer. Now all I have to do is to book the hotel :)

It's going to be fabulous!

I could do with some help though - has anyone seen any lovely fandom artwork that I could use in the 'virtual art gallery' we have running between presentations?  The artists get a credit in the programme and everyone always seems to enjoy the show - it would be particularly nice to have stuff from the last 10 years from lots of different fandoms as it's the anniversary of the very first [livejournal.com profile] writerconuk this year. Links in comments if you have a moment please..... Thanks, and do pimp if you can!

It's the 10 years anniversary of [livejournal.com profile] writerconuk and so this is to all those online friends of mine who have found an excuse not to come in the past to gird their loins and come this year and make it the best one evah!!

There will be quizzing, and crafting (yes!) and a improve your posture/belly dance workshop (with NO BELLIES SHOWING *g*), and so YOU (I'm talking to YOU!) need to sign up now.

  • Over here is the list of who has signed up so far.

  • Over here is the sign up post

  • Over here you can volunteer to do something fun for everyone attending

So - how about it?

kazzy_cee: (stained glass)
I voted early this morning.  I hope everyone else eligible to do so in the UK has done so *nags*.

I have been out for lunch with [livejournal.com profile] lilachigh.  The original idea was to meet in Rochester in Kent, but unfortunately there was torrential rain last night with thunder storms and so all the trains were all delayed/cancelled.  Instead we met in a local garden centre and ate a delicious lunch in a favourite Italian restaurant.  I am well stuffed.

I have been getting my 'stock' of terrariums ready for the open garden event on 3rd July.  I think I have enough. They do look nice with an airplant in:

I've also made little hanging cats and flowers to sell.  Hopefully I should make a bit of a profit.

Belly dancing tonight - I'm thinking of providing a little belly dancing/posture and flexibility workshop at [livejournal.com profile] writerconuk this year. Could be fun :P
kazzy_cee: (ani angel geek dance)
There were a group of Lj friends who were enjoying all aspects of the Buffy fandom.  Some of them had attended the US Writercon and were sad that nothing similar was being held in the UK. So they got chatting online and eleven of them decided to meet up in a Nottingham hotel in October 2006.  They called this a "Minimeet" and a fun time of planning, eating and gossiping was had by all.

The outcome was that they would try and stage a small event for like-minded fans the following year, and that's what happened. This was held in Nottingham again in August of 2007 and this time there were more people (and [livejournal.com profile] slaymesoftly came all the way over from the US!).  The scene had been set for this to continue.

2008 saw the minimeet move to Reading, and yet more fun was had.  In 2009 the event moved to Coventry and every year since it has continued, to start with during August, but in 2014 the date was moved into September which seemed to suit more people (and didn't clash with annual family holidays).

So now we are in 2016, and this means the [livejournal.com profile] writerconuk event has been going for 10 years.  Some of the original members have moved away from Lj (and sadly one member has passed away), but many of the people who were there at the start, are still attending these events.  The Buffyverse is no longer the main fandom represented, instead the fandom areas are incredibly diverse, but the structure of the event has changed only slightly over the years:

  • Friday everyone arrives and there is a meet and greet with a quiz followed by a group meal.

  • Saturday there are presentations - over the years these have looked at writing, blogging, artwork as well allowing for the group to be hands-on creative (learning how to make icons and doing crafts) and opportunities to creating some writing.  Saturday night has also morphed into cocktails night, and the Saturday banquet.

  • Sunday is the AGM and general goodbyes with everyone slowly drifting off home.

This year is a special year and it would be wonderful to see you (yes I'm looking at YOU!) there.

Reasons to come:

  • It's not a big scary-huge event (the hotel can only accommodate 40 in the conference room anyway and usually there are between 15-30 people).

  • You don't have to worry you aren't a 'dedicated' fan - I'm not involved in fandom very much, but it's still interesting and informative.  The quiz reflects this as last year there were also general knowledge questions as the fandoms represented are so diverse.

  • Everyone is friendly (including the hotel staff who have got used to us over the past 8 years (and several of them are fans of various shows themselves!).

  • You can share a room to keep costs down, and you don't have to eat in the hotel either. The train station is really close (I'm going by train again this year) and if you need a lift I have no doubt someone may well be going your way!

  • It's fun.

Convinced?  Head over here and sign up, or join the comm to read about previous years if you aren't sure, and to see who else is coming.  It would be lovely to see you there.

I am enjoying my new expanded f-list.  It's lovely to read snippets of everyone's day and to realise that although we are united in a common language, our daily lives and cultures are often very different!

It's a very changeable week here in the UK.  After all the lovely sunshine last week we are now back to sun and showers with occasional hailstones and cooler temperatures.

A couple of garden photos )

I'm stuck in the house today as I'm waiting for the old PS3 games to be collected by Music Magpie.  Unfortunately they can't give me more than an 8am-8pm 'window' which is annoying.  I have found another box of games which I've priced up using the site.  It's clever as you can price up items and then save them rather than going ahead with selling them.  They will honour the price quoted for a couple of weeks which is handy.  The ones I'm sending off today, along with the PC games I have sent to Momox (Music Magpie won't take PC games) will generate quite a bit of money - more than I was expecting, and certainly more than if I took them to a local games exchange or a boot fair.  If I go ahead with this new box of games as well we should be about to give a nice cheque to Eldest and Youngest Cee and it gets rid of more clutter :)

I'm going to go back to trying to find something positive to say throughout the year using the 100 days of happy meme.  I think my last entry in this meme got me up to number 18.  So number 19 is "decluttering and making money in the process"! :D

ETA: The sign up post for [livejournal.com profile] writerconuk is now up here.  I won't bore you (yet) with why you should go.  But be prepared for some nagging......

The last time I did this was here.

In other news there's a banner challenge for [livejournal.com profile] writerconuk this year as it's the 10th anniversary.  The rules and a link to the original post are as follows:

Banner Size: 800 x 258 pixels (or the same ratio)
Text: All banners must include the text Writercon UK and 10 Years of Fandom
File format: .gif, .jpg or .png
Deadline: 31st May
Submission: Please submit your banner(s) in comment(s) to this post.
You can enter as many banners as you like.

I shall be having a go and if you can't make the event, this is a good way to participate.  We also have a virtual art gallery at the event and I assemble pretty fanart to display via a projector during the breaks.  If anyone could point me in the direction of some pretties I will approach the artists to see if they want to be part of the gallery.

If anyone would like to pimp the challenge or the event, please feel free to link to this post or the [livejournal.com profile] writerconuk community! :)

I have had an incredibly productive day today which pleases me immensely.

I have:

  • put two loads of laundry on to wash and then been out for a long walk with Mr Cee this morning

  • made fresh parsnip and carrot soup for lunch

  • had a baking afternoon and made fresh goats cheese (currently cooling in the 'fridge), two loaves of fresh crusty Italian bread, a strawberry and lemon loaf cake

Photo )

  • wrapped up Youngest Cee's presents for tomorrow

  • booked a table at Youngest Cee's favourite local restaurant for tomorrow lunchtime

Phew!  And it's only 4.15pm :)

[livejournal.com profile] writerconuk 10th anniversary event has been confirmed as the 16th-18th September!!  See the announcement here. Everyone needs to come this year!!! 10 years of getting together at this bijou event (as in, it's not huge and therefore much more fun than a large con) in Coventry at a hotel which knows us (and still lets us come back each year!) and whose staff are fabulous! C'mon - you know you want to! :)

Back to the 30 days meme.  This time it's Day 27 A picture of your handwriting (under the cut).

Untidy handwriting... )

I am now going to relax for the rest of the afternoon I think!  Happy Saturday!
kazzy_cee: (ani umbrellas rain)
The rain is hammering down outside and my planned work related visit has been cancelled so I have time to write up my report about this year's [livejournal.com profile] writerconuk.

My journey down was fairly uneventful and straight forward via the train/tube/train route I've taken the last couple of years, and I got to the Coventry Ramada hotel at around 1pm not long after [livejournal.com profile] hils who was sitting in the bar with a beer as I walked in.  I ordered a very nice sandwich and french fries for lunch (plus a large glass of wine because I was on holiday!) and we sat and chatted as other people slowly wandered in over the course of the afternoon.

I really like this part of the [livejournal.com profile] writerconuk weekend - it's so nice to catch up with online friends and have a good chat in a relaxed atmosphere.  The staff at the Ramada are lovely and extremely welcoming (I was greeted with the bar lady saying "Gosh I can't believe it's a year since you've been here! It's so nice that you are back.") and throughout the afternoon various staff members came and said hello as we became a larger and larger group.

More under here as it's long... )

We will definitely be having the 10th year event next year as [livejournal.com profile] ningloreth has volunteered as Chair, [livejournal.com profile] tlanti will continue as Secretary and [livejournal.com profile] hab318princess will be looking after the finances as Treasurer.  Yay!  I shall also be doing the quiz again, and [livejournal.com profile] gillo has stayed on as the venue liaison as the Ramada Coventry is so perfect for us.

After that it was time for farewells and slowly people drifted off to catch trains and drive down motorways.  I shall miss everyone :(

If you didn't make it this year, and you would like to come next year it will be around the same time of year again (I think that's around the 9th September).  But why come?

  • Is it all about fandom? NO! But that's a great start as you already have LOADS in common with everyone else, and you'll find yourself talking about EVERYTHING under the sun (if you want to - and if you don't you can listen to everyone else).

  • Is it friendly? YES!! Including the staff at the hotel (who note things like "There's not much in the raffle this year from Supernatural is there?")

  • It is expensive?  Well that's up to you - it's a very nominal cost to register, and you can opt out of any of the hotel meals if you'd prefer.  Coffee and tea breaks are paid for as part of the registration fee and include biscuits and pastries (and sweeties this year!), breakfast is included in the special conference rate (and honestly if you are sensible, you really won't want lunch after all the breakfast options!  Unfortunately I am never sensible and ate far.too.much this year)

  • Do you have to attend everything? Of course not! Attend what you want, and enjoy yourself - no obligation!

So maybe next year will be the year you (yes, I'm looking at YOU!) will join us.... after all 10 years is something to celebrate!
kazzy_cee: (ani applause)
I have had a lovely time in [livejournal.com profile] writerconuk and am now back home.  My journey home was really good - Coventry to Euston in London and then across London by tube to Charing Cross station all meshed together perfectly.  When I got to Charing Cross a train to my home station was just about ready to leave, but the guard at the entry gate was fantastic and waved me over while opening the barrier, and then ran over to the train and opened the train door for me so I could leap (athletically.... or as near athlectically as I could clutching several bags) onto the train, saving me a 20 minute wait for the next train home.  *loves*

A proper report will follow tomorrow, but in the meantime a quick summary would be that it was great to meet with Lj peeps, eat delicious food, be welcomed so warmly by staff at the hotel, take part in fandom stuff and drink far too many cocktails....

It was fun!

Only 11 days to [livejournal.com profile] writerconuk!

I'm all booked - hotel, train (taking the strain), registration at the event.

YAY!!!! *bounces*

Sorry I've been a bit AWOL as it's been mad at work.  I'm glad I only do this on a very part time basis, but I'm completely wiped out at the end of each day with all the travelling across London and beyond and then writing up reports.  It's slowly winding down, but there have been some really frustrating issues to deal with.

Tomorrow we are off to Portsmouth for Youngest Cee's graduation ceremony. It should be good - Sandi Toksvig is the chancellor, so Youngest Cee is hoping to get a photo with her as he's rather taller than she is...(she's under 5' and he's 6'5" LOL!).  Also her speech should be good fun.

kazzy_cee: (ani Angel clapclapclap)
It's been a lovely couple of days and today is lovely and warm as well.  *whispers* maybe we are finally into a 'proper' June which started off nasty and cold and rainy.

My f-list is very quiet, so I had a hunt around to see what else I could add to my friends feed (as it is now known).  It's such a shame that Lj is so quiet now.  People seem to have disappeared to other social networking sites such as Twitter and I suppose I should be pleased that I can still communicate with people there, but it's not the same with only 140 characters!  I don't frequent Facebook, so that's no use.  I remember the good old days when reading my f-list took around 45 minutes each day, not so much now.

Anyway this is a rambling way of saying that I've added [livejournal.com profile] vintage_ads to my f-list and at the moment they have ads with hunky men in.  Rather nice in actual fact... there's a LOT of chest hair ([livejournal.com profile] frenchani - !).

Also - I have treated myself to a soldering iron and loads of glass as I went up to Camden and visited a glass specialist which is right nearby to Camden market wherre I went a few weeks ago.   Yay - fun stuff to do!

ALSO - [livejournal.com profile] writerconuk have their sign up post up, so now is your chance to see Lj people in the flesh (they are NOT scary at ALL).  Please come and join us - I shall be there!  It's good fun, and you get a special rate at the hotel (which is lovely, and the staff are really great).

This will probably end up being quite long...

My first day is here as it also coincided with the [livejournal.com profile] monthlydiaryday so I did manage to type it up on Saturday morning while I was impatiently waiting for the restaurant to open for breakfast.  I really missed [livejournal.com profile] thismaz this year as she wasn't able to make it, and is another early riser.  We are usually the first people down for breakfast on [livejournal.com profile] writerconuk Saturday!  Anyway - it was good to be productive and breakfast at the Ramada hotel is absolutely lovely, so I was able to eat at least one breakfast before I was joined by [livejournal.com profile] lilachigh and then [livejournal.com profile] spikereader before other people started to wander downstairs too.

And on we go.... )

What a fun time! Can't wait until next year (it's probably going to be around the same time of year), and we must organise something in London soon.  Aquarium visit in March anyone?

I'm back from [livejournal.com profile] writerconuk! Despite public transport trying to stop me reaching home by shutting a whole section of the Northern Line tube, my journey was good. Fortunately I live in an area of the South East London suburbs which is served by an excellent train line and luckily I have several different mainline London stations I can get home from - so I headed home via Victoria Station (also a happy thing!).

I will write up the weekend tomorrow but in a nutshell it was great fun. It was really lovely to meet up with the 'usual' suspects and also some newbies. I even think we managed not to scare them off!!

But now I need some dinner as I haven't eaten since the massive hotel breakfast (unless you count chocolate from my goodie bag which does not count). I also need to catch up with Mr Cee who has just got back from dropping Youngest Cee back at university for another semester and had a horrible journey!

I have three days off from tomorrow - laterz!!
