Yesterday was [livejournal.com profile] monthlydiaryday so below the cut I've cross posted my entry for yesterday.

Today it's sunny again, and even though it's forecast to be dull later I thought I'd take the risk and do some laundry. The first load is on the line and hopefully it's going to dry OK. I've had to water all the plants in pots on the deck as we have had several days now without any rain, so they were looking a bit dry. I've got some liquid plant food so they all had a treat which should be a good thing as they are all showing a lot of growth after all this sunshine.

Todays 100 question is: 30: Think of it: have you ever been truly scared? Oh yes - more than once. I don't like heights so I get scared if I'm near to the edge of anything high, although I can talk myself out of it if I'm given enough warning. I also don't like driving on busy motorways but again, I can do it if I have to.

Right - I need to get on with that butterfly if I'm going to finish it and as I've already vacuumed the whole house, dusted everything to within an inch of it's life and have put another load of laundry on to wash I had better get on!

Happy Thursday!

29: What's something really cute that one of your friends does and is totally endearing?
I've got nothing. I suppose because most of my friends are over 21 and I wouldn't describe much they do as 'cute'....!

In other news I have been trying to import my Lj over to Dreamwidth just to back it up and so far it's been 'waiting in a queue' for 22 hours. I'm so tempted to forget about it, but I'm stubborn....

Also - this is an interesting article all about the Lj clones out there. I'd completely forgotten about Insane Journal, which I've just logged into (it's a miracle I remembered the password!!). I seem to have last used it in 2007 and I got sidetracked reading the entries! Good grief I was still teaching back then and both boys were still at school. Oy!

It's mass observation day today so I shall be posting in [livejournal.com profile] monthlydiaryday tomorrow about today, but I met my ex-colleague who commissioned a stained glass dragonfly from me this morning and he was pleased with it. I have folding cash too *g*

I'm sure there was something else I was going to post about, but it escapes me right now.... I'll probably remember as soon as I click post *sigh*

Also I joined a friending meme (here) and I have new friends! *waves*

27: What's your favourite bubblegum flavour?
I don't really like bubblegum. I remember there being a lot of fuss about new flavours in the '70s but I kind of grew out of blowing bubblegum bubbles when I hit 16 and had a brace on my teeth. Bubblegum and braces do NOT mix well...

In other  news I have finished the dragonfly commission, so I've moved on to the next butterfly. This one is for my belly dance teacher and she wants black and red. It's always hard to decide how to use the different colours and get the textures to work together, but this afternoon I think I've cracked what I shall be doing and made a start cutting the glass.  It's going well.
kazzy_cee: (handbags)
21: Talk about your favourite bag, the one that's been to hell and back with you and that you love to pieces.
I don't have one favourite bag, but I do have a favourite style from one particular manufacturer: Kipling's Alvar bag to be precise. I have many pretty variations in colours and designs but I really like the style of the bag and the size is large enough to carry all the things I need but still leave room for other things if necessary. I am resisting buying another one in this season's colour but they are so useful!!

In other news it's been an incredibly busy day. This morning I spent time at my stained glass class finishing the dragonfly commission for my ex-colleague. Unfortunately when transporting it to class one of the wings cracked, however it's hardly noticeable, and following some advice from my teacher I shall make a new one for him which will be stronger. I shall hang 'my' one up somewhere outside I think. It's about 30cm across and made of irridescent glass so it sparkles. The new one will be better. :)

I got home from the class and after grabbing some toast I shot up to Camden to buy some more glass supplies so I can make the butterfly my belly dance teacher has commissioned. She wants a red and black butterfly, and it's been challenging finding the glass as red is made by adding gold to the molten glass. I have some and it means the price of the butterfly will be quite high (she's OK with that!).

I got back at 3.30, and had a coffee and rested my hot feet from all the walking. This evening Mr Cee and I are going to see Logan at the cinema, but as it's nearly completed its run for here it's only on at 8.45pm which means a late evening home. Mr Cee is going to work at home tomorrow to avoid having to struggle across London to work though :)

Firstly - the sign up post for [livejournal.com profile] writerconuk is up here. SIGN UP SIGN UP SIGN UP!!! (it's going to be fabulous). Also please pimp. Also please let me know if you want to host a discussion/talk/presentation - otherwise you're going to end up with me doing too many and no-one wants that.

Secondly - the stained glass butterfly is finished and is hanging on my studio and looks good. Photos under the cut.

My glass teacher asked to put it up on "the website" which means I must be getting good at the soldering, although I have no idea which website she means.... I shall have to ask her next week! :)

Thirdly the question of the day is: 15: Go google a weird space fact and tell us what it is! Answer: Mercury and Venus are the only two planets in our solar system that do not have any moons. Remember this - it may come up at the [livejournal.com profile] writerconuk quiz. Of course it also might not.... *waggles eyebrows* Also - there are a LOT of websites claiming to have interesting facts about space! Who knew?

Fourthly - or finally - my bellydance teacher has asked if I want to do a solo at a show in May. *gulps*

[livejournal.com profile] thefridayfive have their questions up a little later than usual and they are about cooking from [livejournal.com profile] brutti_ma_buoni :)  Under a cut as it got long.

Back to the 100 questions thing....
13: what's something that made you smile today? It's only 8.42am, but Zero the cat has made me smile. He is still having to have eyedrops for his eye issue and he's so used to it now that he just lies there and lets me put the drop in his eye. Then he sits waiting for the treats he knows are coming and purrs at me. Makes me smile every time! Of course the others know there are treats being dished out and usually turn up and wait when they see me putting the drops in his eye.

Right - time to get on! I want to finish making my stained glass butterfly today as I want to start on the next project which will be something to hang on the front of the house in the new courtyard area. :)
kazzy_cee: (billie music)
9: Do you like singing/humming to yourself?
Ummm... yes. I find myself humming quietly to myself far too often! I was doing it today at my stained glass class... ooops!

I am enjoying my class at the moment - I'm making a butterfly to go outside on the garden studio. It's fiddly but rather pretty in different shades of purple. I've cut out all the glass and put the copper foil on some of it (this is the stage it's at so far - there's another section that belongs around each wing in purple and all the glass is cut for the left hand wing). After all the pieces are foiled on both wings I'll solder it.

We also heard this week that our teacher is running two summer workshops. One for glass painting and another on 3D shapes for the garden. When I got home I signed up for them as they sound interesting. Oddly the college called me after the payment went through and said I have a £55 credit on my account. There seems to be some confusion why the refund is there, so I'm going to have to talk to them next Tuesday and see what's going on!

8: What artistic medium do you use to express your feelings?

It's a miserable day today - colder than it has been, really windy and drizzly (the tail end of the US storm apparently). So I shall be in my studio playing around with a couple of stained glass projects I have that need to be finished. I suppose that's my artistic outlet at the moment, although I also draw, paint, cross stitch and design (I'm working on plans for the garden and for stained glass projects), I also bake and cook. Oh! I nearly forgot I've got some polymer clay I haven't got around to opening yet, and I want to make some things from balsa wood for my dolls house as there are loads of projects online that I've bookmarked. Then there's the mirror I want to upcycle for the living room and the garden bench I need to paint and rennovate....

You could say that I have quite a few things that I can express my feelings with (including dancing) - I often wonder how I managed to fit in a job.....

Thank all that is Holy for Lj and my friends feed!! You are all so sensible and on the whole you are avoiding the train wreck for which I will be forever grateful. I'd much rather read about what you have been up to anyway.

So - what have I been up to you ask? Not a great deal but I did manage to finish the fish that [livejournal.com profile] lilachigh asked me to make her. I think he looks good against a window - see?
She's not seen him in the flesh yet, and is happy with the photo - but I hope he likes him when she picks him up next week as well.

I went to Pilates again today. There were many core exercises which were challenging, especially as the evening before at belly dancing we had been isolating our rib cage and moving it left and right in time to music which meant I had well-worked muscles around my diaphragm and upper abdomen. My teacher knew that, but she was mean! Still - maybe one day I'll have abs that show ;)

The rest of the day I have been cleaning as we are having our new neighbours round for a drink tomorrow. I have an assortment of cheeses and will make some bread in the morning. I also made a Kashmiri butter chicken curry dish in my slow cooker for dinner tonight. It smells wonderful! I am enjoying some lemon vodka at the moment and there will be Indian beer later. I'm really hungry!

Happy Friday all!

Day 13 → talk about hobbies this year

I'm afraid I have probably talked about these far too much all year - belly dancing, stained glass making, and a little bit of dolls house building. So it's been a busy year for hobbies which pleases me.

Belly dancing - of course we had the London show which went well and we have our Christmas party on Thursday evening where there will be guest dancers and we will perform two dances to the 100+ audience which will be fun. It's quite informal which is nice.  The belly dancing community is very welcoming and very enthusiastic in their applause and whistles and clapping during a performance.  It is very encouraging!

Stained glass - I've had my last class today as we break up now until after Christmas.  It's a very enjoyable hobby and my classmates are all lovely.  We had our Christmas meal out yesterday which was nice.  I do enjoy creating things too, so it's been fun and I have sold a few items this year which is also good.  In the New Year I shall try and get more organise and set up an Etsy shop to make a few things to sell as it's a good hobby and fun to do and I might as well try and cover a few costs!

Latest creation for a friend... )

Doll house building has taken a back seat at the moment, although this year I bought the basement kit and assembled that. I've also been looking at the ideas for using the air dry 'clay' to make items such as flowers etc.  When my studio has permanent power and heat (which has been put on hold while we tile the kitchen) I shall move it into there and try to finish it.

I haven't been sleeping very well the last few nights - I have no idea why.  I'm hoping that I get some uninterrupted sleep tonight.
kazzy_cee: (stained glass)
If you would like a Christmas/Seasonal card from me, please let me know in comments and PM your address to me. No obligation to send one to me, but if you want to that would be lovely - I'll PM you my new address. ;)

In other news it's pouring with rain and the temperature is supposed to plummet tomorrow - winter is on its way!  So I have been using my new glass studio to make some stained glass things because I can and because it's fun.  I bought some really lovely glass from my class teacher last week and have been pondering what to make with it since.  I was sorting out my pattern books I found the ideal thing - a rather lovely candle holder.

I think it looks good (gets bigger with a clicky)!  I will probably make another one of these.

I've also been making angels which have been fun too.  I like the irridescent glass on the left hand one.  They can hang on a tree or near a window and will make the place look festive.  I may give a few away too:

Tonight is my belly dancing class.  The show on the 26th is getting scarily near - there are four of us performing now.  Mr Cee is coming, but none of my other friends are free which might be a good thing for my nerves!

My entry about what I did yesterday is under the cut.

This morning I have been unpacking boxes and sorting out my glass studio.  There is still quite a lot of organising to do so I'll have to do some more tomorrow.  It's good that there is plenty of storage in there now, and I've been able to set up one side of the studio with all the glass making bits and pieces and the other side has lots of other arty materials such as paint brushes, canvasses, dolls house items waiting to be made and other fun things.  It's nearly there!  I shall take photos once it's sorted out a bit more.

This afternoon I'm just tidying up the last few things in the study and it's looking good in there too.  We've moved things around and I have a blind and some cushion covers on order which will pick up the yellow of the sofabed and bring the whole room together.

Mr Cee and Youngest Cee have gone out to look at a car which YC is interested in buying - his current car is getting to the expensive age and as it was a hand-me-down from us it's about 12 years old now and he really needs something reliable.  I'm hoping that when they get back they will sweep up some of the leaves from the front of the house as we are in danger of being buried!

Happy Sunday all! :)

The temperature has dropped significantly the last couple of days and we've had thick frost which has been a real contrast to the beginning of the week which was lovely and sunny.

I promised photos of my glass studio and below the cut these can be found...

Photos of the new hobby room )

I had a lovely birthday on Friday despite it being cold.  Mr Cee took the day off and we went up to London to have brunch at one of our favourite restaurants in Covent Garden before walking down to the British Museum to have a good look at all the exhibits. It's a long time since we've been there, and I enjoyed it.  We started off in the clocks and watches exhibition (photos and more under the cut)

Photos! )

In other news - the nasty ezcema on my hands has flared up again, and I wasn't near any plants yesterday!  I am therefore stumped as to what is causing it, but it woke me up at 1am this morning so I took some anti-histamine and smothered my hands in hydrating cream but it's really itchy. *sigh*

It's annoying as the tiles for the kitchen and the two bathroom sinks have arrived and I'd like to be getting on with putting them on the walls.  Instead I shall be forced to sit around and catch up with TV which I suppose is not a bad thing for a Sunday.
kazzy_cee: (3D)
So now we can 'heart' a post.  I am actually quite happy about this as sometimes I just don't seem to have the time to write anything significant, and it's nice to be able to acknowledge that someone has taken the time to post something.  I suppose it's the equivalent of the thumbs up on Facebook/Messenger (which I still loathe, but I have to use to keep in touch with my belly dancing group).  The only annoyance is that you can't do it through the Lj App.

Anyhoo - it's been one of those days when things have been very hectic chez the Cees.  My garden hobby room has been built!! The two lads who built it started work at 7.50 having driven for 3 hours to get here from the Midlands.  They finished just as it was starting to get dark at 3.45.  I have taken some photos but the final photo is too dark, so I shall post that another time.  I am very pleased with it as my stained glass class started up again yesterday and I am very keen to start to produce things at home again.  I need power and lighting and some heating (it's getting cold!) and to install some work desks, so I have to be patient until Mr Cee can put all that in for me.  I'm thinking one work area for glass and another work area for the dollshouse and other crafts *excited*

We also now have a Smart gas meter to go along with our Smart Electricity meter.  The gas meter couldn't be installed at the same time as the electricity meter as there was a mistake on our gas account (we get gas and eletricity from the same provider) which has now been rectified.  I can now choose a day at the weekend when I have free electricity all day (which is cool), and I have a gadget which tells me how much I am spending on both fuels every day (which is scary!).  Also the meter sends data so we have accurate bills each month.

Then there was the Amazon delivery, and the pick up of something that was being sent back, and the shopping that I needed to do... and I needed to bake some bread (which smells lovely) and Mr Cee was working at home, so it was very busy!

This evening I am going to my belly dance teacher's house for a rehearsal for the dance show at the end of the month which is getting scarily close! There are four of us who will be performing (on our own) for one dance.

Tomorrow I am seeing Ab Fab with some friends which should be silly and fun.

Happy Wednesday!
kazzy_cee: (stained glass)
Happy thing number 21 for this year is selling stained glass things.

I managed to sell quite a few items at the open garden event today and the weather was kind which meant there were a lot of people out and about visiting the gardens.  I sold lots of the little items I had made such as suncatchers, but sadly not as many of the terrariums as I was hoping.  However, several people took my card as there had been plants, cake and refreshments at the other gardens so when they got to where I was they didn't have any money left.  So I might get some follow up next week and even if I don't at least there has been some interest.

Of course there was one person who thought what I was selling was expensive, but generally I think I pitched the prices just right - thank you oh f-list!

I'm really tired now though and also very hungry as we had brunch at 10.30 and I haven't eaten anything else since - fortunately Mr Cee is a wonder and has made vegetarian lasagne which has just gone into the oven.

Happy Sunday all.
kazzy_cee: (reading summer)
I realised that I'd abandoned the 100 happy things meme which I started at the beginning of the year.  Mostly this was because there were some more interesting 30 day memes, but I think it's time to get back on board with looking for happy things to post about.

I got to number 19 on 7th April and I have several happy things in this post (bullets for brevity):

  • I have finished all the stained glass items I wanted to make for the craft stall on Sunday.  Apparently there were over 100 people at the Open Garden event last year, but the weather looks a bit dreary this year.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

  • Youngest Cee is home from Paris, France.  He and his two friends had a good time - he says the highlights were the wonderful food and wine, the sightseeing and watching the football.  He's got quite a tan as the weather was lovely most days with 31C temperatures.  He thinks it's cold here (it is, today is only 17C).

  • Youngest Cee has had to go back to work today even though he is quite tired from travelling yesterday.  The reality of only being on a temporary contract with very little paid time off!  He has had his contract extended another month until the end of July which he is pleased about.

  • I have volunteered to be part of the next Oriental Express show in London in November which means belly dancing on stage, in front of lots of people (!). At the moment there are only two of us from our class who have volunteered, so that could be interesting.

Good things which I shall put together for number 20 of my happy things this year.

In other news the house move is still progressing.  The drain survey we had done last week turned up a blockage which has now been cleared - we have paid for it at the moment, but the cost will be reimbursed by the vendor.  Our solicitor is waiting for documents from the local council regarding the original extension to the house which she needs to see.  She is chasing the council, but they are being very slooooow.....
kazzy_cee: (stained glass)
I voted early this morning.  I hope everyone else eligible to do so in the UK has done so *nags*.

I have been out for lunch with [livejournal.com profile] lilachigh.  The original idea was to meet in Rochester in Kent, but unfortunately there was torrential rain last night with thunder storms and so all the trains were all delayed/cancelled.  Instead we met in a local garden centre and ate a delicious lunch in a favourite Italian restaurant.  I am well stuffed.

I have been getting my 'stock' of terrariums ready for the open garden event on 3rd July.  I think I have enough. They do look nice with an airplant in:

I've also made little hanging cats and flowers to sell.  Hopefully I should make a bit of a profit.
photos of examples )

Belly dancing tonight - I'm thinking of providing a little belly dancing/posture and flexibility workshop at [livejournal.com profile] writerconuk this year. Could be fun :P
kazzy_cee: (KC rainbow)
I'm getting out of the habit of updating, so here is an update.

Moving: the builders have fixed a couple of the things they had damaged at the new house so that's all going ahead.  We have the pre-contract paperwork from the vendors and they have made a few errors on that (mostly missing out answers to questions) so our solicitor is chasing that up. Overall it's progressing and nothing has surfaced on the solictor's 'searches' so it's all good.  We'd really like a date soon though.

Job hunting: Youngest Cee has applied for a couple of jobs including the one he's currently doing, but hasn't got either of them which is frustrating. He's quite sad and low about the whole thing as the career he's chosen is so difficult to get into (at least on a permanent basis rather than on a limited contract).  He said it was really awkward at his current job when they had to tell him he hadn't got the job (which was a maternity cover contract, so not permanent anyway).  His initial four month contract has been extended until the end of July, but after that he'll be out of work again. He's thinking of giving up trying to be an archive assistant but he doesn't know what to do :(

Stained glass: I had a lot of interest in the terrariums I've been making.  I've sold one to my hairdresser, two more to one friend and another friend came round last night and collected the two I had made for her Mum's birthday next week.  She wants me to make some more for other members of her family which I'm very happy to do!  So I have begun my empire.... bwahahahahaha!!!  Of course I haven't really as I'm not making a huge profit selling to friends (barely above cost price), but it's nice to sell things you've made.  However, I probably will have to be more realistic about how much I'm selling stuff for, so under the cut is a price poll...

Help meeeeee...... )

Today will be another sorting out day - I can't believe how much junk we're accumulated in 25 years!  It's like a treasure trove :)

Happy Saturday!
kazzy_cee: (japanese vase)
Bullets as that's how I roll today:

  • I have to wait in for a delivery that will be delivered 'By the end of the day' (which is very unhelpful UPS!), so of course I want to go out.

  • I am trying to sort more things out, but I am lacking motivation, however I have finally packed away all the winter coats and woolly jumpers (which means we will no doubt have freezing temperatures immediately)

  • Orlando - I just don't understand why someone doesn't stop the citizens being able to buy assault rifles in the US.  I know banning guns would be almost impossible, but how about just limiting people to guns that you don't just pull a trigger and mow down everyone?  Surely that would help a bit?  If you want to shoot assault rifles, maybe only limit them to places like gun ranges? Anyone.... ?

  • Youngest Cee is going to the football in Paris next week. He's travelling by Eurostar and staying a week with two other friends.  I am irrationally worried about them being involved in violence of some description - it's shameful that some fans have gone over just to make trouble, and don't even get me started on the possibility of some kind of terrorist incident.  I'm not sleeping very well as a result and I have eczema on my right hand which I think is connected.

  • I have a new dressing table and it's smaller than my old one, so I don't have anywhere to store my make up and stuff.  I've made myself a stained glass box to remedy that (photos under the cut).  I've used geode slice as the 'handle' and I like how it's come together.

photos )

Right - I suppose I had better do some more sorting out.... *sigh*
kazzy_cee: (ani umbrellas rain)
The word/phrase you use constantly.

Interesting one - and I have noticed that on here I use 'in other news' rather too often (sorry!).  When I'm speaking I tend to use 'really?' a lot which I know can be annoying.

Anyway! Today is the first day of summer - although no-one has told my bit of the UK and yesterday we had a month's worth of rain in one day, and today it is cold, with outbreaks of torrential rain and really strong winds.  I don't know if it was the wind outside last night but I woke up at 3.30am and couldn't get back to sleep so I went and read my book in the spare room and after I'd finished that I got up and came downstairs and fed the cats at about 4.45.  So I'm feeling a bit dead now....

A friend came round this morning and we had coffee which was nice. I gave her my old stand mixer (which had hardly been used) and she has ordered a couple of small terrariums as presents for family... my little 'business' is growing!

Moving news - our buyers should have their mortgage offer confirmed next week.  The builders have reported back to the owners of the house we are buying and have said they have finished all the building work.  However, we have been past the house and can still see things that are not finished (grrr!).  So we are going to meet the Estate Agent there tomorrow afternoon and check it over and then get our surveyor in to look in more detail.  If there are still unfinished things we will be negotiating a reduction in the price as we don't want it to hold up the sale.

In other news *g* today's word is groak*.  This means to stare longingly at someone who is eating in the hope they will offer to share their food. Doesn't work in my house....
