29: What's something really cute that one of your friends does and is totally endearing?
I've got nothing. I suppose because most of my friends are over 21 and I wouldn't describe much they do as 'cute'....!

In other news I have been trying to import my Lj over to Dreamwidth just to back it up and so far it's been 'waiting in a queue' for 22 hours. I'm so tempted to forget about it, but I'm stubborn....

Also - this is an interesting article all about the Lj clones out there. I'd completely forgotten about Insane Journal, which I've just logged into (it's a miracle I remembered the password!!). I seem to have last used it in 2007 and I got sidetracked reading the entries! Good grief I was still teaching back then and both boys were still at school. Oy!

It's mass observation day today so I shall be posting in [livejournal.com profile] monthlydiaryday tomorrow about today, but I met my ex-colleague who commissioned a stained glass dragonfly from me this morning and he was pleased with it. I have folding cash too *g*

I'm sure there was something else I was going to post about, but it escapes me right now.... I'll probably remember as soon as I click post *sigh*

Also I joined a friending meme (here) and I have new friends! *waves*

23: What's your favorite thing to do on lazy days where you have 0 obligations?
Read or create something - draw, embroider (if it's chilly outside), create something in stained glass.... bake bread or make a cake.

I have no obligations today and I'm making goats cheese this morning. Some seasoned with fresh chives and some with smoked paprika.

Is it me, or is it quite arrogant to think a oligarchy like Russia is going to be worrying about my little English Lj? I understand people aren't happy, but I do think it's a shame that people are going to move exclusively to Dreamwidth which is based in the US. Isn't anyone worried about the fact that in the US your data can be sold? I would have though that would be worse. I have had to lock down my 'security' on Facebook because as soon as I signed up my spam folder was full of US advertising, despite the fact I very rarely post there, and now FB is likely to be accessing my information regardless of the 'security' settings I have put in place.

Also - every time I see TOS abbreviated I tend to think that I don't give one.
kazzy_cee: (3D)
So now we can 'heart' a post.  I am actually quite happy about this as sometimes I just don't seem to have the time to write anything significant, and it's nice to be able to acknowledge that someone has taken the time to post something.  I suppose it's the equivalent of the thumbs up on Facebook/Messenger (which I still loathe, but I have to use to keep in touch with my belly dancing group).  The only annoyance is that you can't do it through the Lj App.

Anyhoo - it's been one of those days when things have been very hectic chez the Cees.  My garden hobby room has been built!! The two lads who built it started work at 7.50 having driven for 3 hours to get here from the Midlands.  They finished just as it was starting to get dark at 3.45.  I have taken some photos but the final photo is too dark, so I shall post that another time.  I am very pleased with it as my stained glass class started up again yesterday and I am very keen to start to produce things at home again.  I need power and lighting and some heating (it's getting cold!) and to install some work desks, so I have to be patient until Mr Cee can put all that in for me.  I'm thinking one work area for glass and another work area for the dollshouse and other crafts *excited*

We also now have a Smart gas meter to go along with our Smart Electricity meter.  The gas meter couldn't be installed at the same time as the electricity meter as there was a mistake on our gas account (we get gas and eletricity from the same provider) which has now been rectified.  I can now choose a day at the weekend when I have free electricity all day (which is cool), and I have a gadget which tells me how much I am spending on both fuels every day (which is scary!).  Also the meter sends data so we have accurate bills each month.

Then there was the Amazon delivery, and the pick up of something that was being sent back, and the shopping that I needed to do... and I needed to bake some bread (which smells lovely) and Mr Cee was working at home, so it was very busy!

This evening I am going to my belly dance teacher's house for a rehearsal for the dance show at the end of the month which is getting scarily close! There are four of us who will be performing (on our own) for one dance.

Tomorrow I am seeing Ab Fab with some friends which should be silly and fun.

Happy Wednesday!

For those following - this is the original meme list.  Today's question is: Your life in 7 years

I shall be scary old by then!  Eeep!  I still won't be eligible to claim my state pension, and I am assuming I probably won't be drawing on any of my private pension schemes, but that might depend on whether Mr Cee wants to take early retirement from his job (he can retire at 60).  So let's make a 'pie in the sky' list -

  • I shall be very settled in our bungalow home.  We will have added the utility room and put in the sun tunnels a couple of the rooms need to brighten them up.  I will have a purpose built glass workshop in the garden.

  • I shall be making money from the stained glass items I sell online and at craft fairs (I can dream!)

  • Youngest Cee will be living not too far away in his own place that we will have helped him to decorate and update.  Eldest Cee will have bought a new place.  Both boys will be happy and have jobs they enjoy.  It would be nice if they had significant others (or even their own young family) but as long as they are happy I'll be happy.

  • Tiger the cat may still be with us (but he'll be 20 years old by then, so I doubt it!). I am sure the other three will still be with us as they will all be 11.

  • If Mr Cee has taken early retirement he may be working as a consultant.  We will have celebrated our Ruby wedding anniversary.

Well that all sounds OK.  I wonder if Lj will still be around so I can check this.  In fact, I wonder what will happen if Lj goes?  I have so many entries on here that reflect things I have been doing since I started the journal back in 2005 - good grief I'd hate to loose all that!  I found some of my written diaries I used to keep and spent about 40 minutes looking through them yesterday reliving old events and recalling people I used to know back in the day.  I'm glad I am keeping a journal here too.

Today is a glass making day I think as it's dreary.  There will be belly dancing class later :)

kazzy_cee: (sigh cat)
It used to take me at least 30 minutes to read through my f-list in the morning.  I used my commute to read it, and it brightened my day.

Now it takes around 5 minutes.  More if I click all the links [livejournal.com profile] petzipellepingo posts (my f-list would be incredibly short if she didn't post!).

So many people have left Lj and the very few times I look on Facebook I find them posting there instead of here.  But I don't like FB interaction - it's not like Lj - it's not as intimate and you can't have threads of conversation like you can here. I'm sure lots of people are on Tumblr instead as well although I never visit there as it's even worse trying to comment amongst all the reblogging. Twitter is fine for a quick comment or an update but it's so busy that I often find I am around 13 hours behind and just can't read all the posts I've missed so I'm sure I miss an awful lot!

I miss the old days of loads of communities posting stuff and friends talking about their days and lives.

Is everyone else finding Lj so very quiet?

ETA: This is not a post complaining about anyone on my flist not posting - I realise a lot of people are busy, and if you came to Lj for the Buffy fandom (as I did) that has tailed off to virtually nothing so it's not surprising people drift away.  Apologies if it came across like that. [livejournal.com profile] curiouswombat has mentioned that a friend posts on FB and misses Lj, but it doesn't seem to have occured to her that she could cross post.  I know it's silly, but when people do that it feels like we've been snubbed on Lj (which has much better security than FB).  I personally get quite upset when someone doesn't post on Lj because they say they are busy, but when you go on FB they are posting all the time....
kazzy_cee: (Spike - key scene)

I have a few days booked off work which means as I only work four days a week (my day at home usually Wednesday), and as it's a long weekend this weekend - I am not back to work until next Thursday!!  Yayz \0/ all for booking three days off.

I see that Lj has changed it's main page again.  As I hardly ever get onto Lj by looking at that page it was a bit of surprise.  I need to sort it out as it's made my bio go screwy, but I don't dislike it.  There seems to be an effort to make us 'blog' which I suppose brings it a little more up to date... sort of......!

Today there has been a polling day and I have done my civic duty, and I hope all the UK-ers have done so too!  People have fought for this right and I hope Russell Brand has not influenced too many people with his idiotic ideas.  I don't think we'd like having a society where we had no say, despite what he says.../rant.

The weather looks appalling here over the weekend, so much sorting and charity shop runs are on the cards. Youngest Cee is home having finished all his end of year exams, and has volunteered to help.

I shall endeavour to pop back soon! *waves*

kazzy_cee: (postit check Lj)

Good grief - is this really happening Lj? I know people are drifting away, and I realise that Tumblr and Facebook seem to be so much more active, but I like how personally interactive we can be on Livejournal, and somehow those other sites are just not the same for me (and dont get me started on security issues on FB!).

In fact I prefer Twitter because you CAN reply directly to someone, and have a 'conversation' and other people can be 'copied in' and join in.  The only annoying part is the limitation on the number of characters, but for quick 'chats' that's fine.

I know I'm just as bad about posting these days here though ......

Oh Lj....

I don't appear to be getting any notifications about comments which is odd, as usually it's fine. So if I haven't replied to anyone, please forgive me - I don't know about the comment!

Tomorrow we return Eldest Cee home to Brighton after his week long visit - it's been lovely having him home. I still don't quite believe he's not living here any more, and I don't think it's really sunk in for him either. Still, he has been telling us all about his job and how much he is enjoying it, along with how much he's enjoying living in his little rented studio flat.

There are some meme's doing the rounds for the end of 2013, so I hope that this comments thing is not going to mean a DoS attack like last year, and we can all post!
kazzy_cee: (postit check Lj)
The BBC news site has an article about Livejournal here.

I owe comments - I will get back to you all later :)
kazzy_cee: (ani applause)
Wow! Every time I came on Lj it wasn't working to such an extent that at one point I thought I must be causing it to go down.... LOL!!

Stupid DOS - *shakes fist*

All the cards to foreign climes are posted, and the UK ones will be following shortly. I hope they all arrive OK.

I'm looking forward to meeting everyone at the [livejournal.com profile] writerconuk meet up at the British Museum on Saturday! Culture and Lj - go together like ... ummm.... well, something I'm sure ;)

In other news - work suckage is at a new peak, but I have an application in for a job I really, really, really, really want elswhere. Good vibes appreciated, because if I don't get as far as an interview for this one I shall be gutted :(

For those wanting to know more about the recent DDoS attacks, yes, it looks like it was the Russian government trying to shut down the dissidents again.

As I said last time, while it's frustrating not to have access, LJ is a lot more than a social network platform. From the article:

"LiveJournal isn’t just a social network. It’s also a platform for organizing civic action. Dozens of network projects and groups mobilize people to solve specific problems — from defending the rights of political prisoners to saving endangered historic architecture in Moscow."

So while I know many are considering the move over to Dreamwidth and other such sites, supporting LJ is a way we can help support those who use it for more than a writing/roleplaying/social venue.

Also, as a FYI, LJ is giving paid users effected by the outage two weeks of paid time as compensation.

.. to come home to lots of lovely birthday wishes and a virtual present on Lj and virtual cards via email, and Twitter 'happy birthdays', and Facebook messages and FB virtual cards, and text messages too! \0/ \0/

Eeeee - innit funny to have all these virtual worlds??

Thank you to everyone!

It's been a very busy day that's gone incredibly quickly. I have presents from Mr Cee and the boys and we celebrated my birthday last weekend when Eldest Cee was home for a few days from University!

Today I had birthday good wishes from colleagues and some of my younger students found out (from a colleague I think!) that it was my birthday and came to the staff room and gave me birthday hugs (which was lovely!).

There was also chocolate!

I shall have more celebrations at the weekend I think as Mr Cee has suggested we go shopping (I see new shoes in my future! LOL!)

Thank you all again it's really cheered me up today!! *hugs you!!!!*

As promised - photo of my new luffly Smart car:

under here to spare your f-list! )

In other news - I'm still in the running in [livejournal.com profile] thebluebox_lims, so if you have a mo' do go and vote here.

Also - thank you to whatever kind soul gave me a lunchbox for my profile page... does it have chocolate in it, I wonder?? *tummyrumbles*

Also, also - it looks like there's some dodgy hacking going on with what looks like a video link on some people's Lj pages without any message. Don't click the site video just in case. A clue is an icon with two ladies in T shirts which is on all the posts.
kazzy_cee: (ani eddie wiped the internet?)
One way of making sure you CAN'T accidentally cross post someone's entry to your Facebook or Twitter is to avoid setting up the 'settings' button so that it can do that.

Alternatively Greasemonkey has a code which you can insert to get rid of the option here. All you need to do once you've installed Greasemonkey is click on the big green 'install' button on this page.

How to install Greasemonkey in Firefox (and other browsers) and use the code is here (it's really easy!!).

Hope that helps those who are freaking out about this - personally my life is so boring at the moment I doubt anyone would want to read my posts anyway LOL!!!! Having said that - I think it's only courteous to check with someone before you repost ANYTHING and I will be displeased if anyone does that without checking with me first m'kay??

Thank you!

I have no idea what glitterati sunglasses are, except that I'm assuming I am supposed to look like one of the glitterati with them.

It was 29.7 degrees C in my office today, all the windows were open and we had two wall fans and one oscillating fan happily pushing the hot air around the desks. It was almost unbearable.

Tuesday is supposed to be a lot cooler, so it's back to guesswork about what to wear each day LOL!

OfSTED Inspectors are here and we're running a pool to see who gets observed first amongst our group. Nothing today! After 1pm tomorrow they can't 'get' me

One moderator visit down and two to go and it's all good stuff because they had virtually NOTHING to comment on and NOTHING to action!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is very good.

Very very good considering that the whole department was such a mess last year and that I was brought in to sort it out and this year the whole structure changed.

All the nagging worked!

Yay!! Two more moderators are visiting on Thursday - let's hope they are just as positive :D

However Lj is not emailing me everyone's comments or replies to my comment. Stupid Lj. Under the cut are the journals I've identified so far where I don't get anything emailed to me. Can you all do me a favour and unfriend/refriend me to see if that makes a difference??

'Tis officially the start of my Christmas holidays. I don't need to be back at work until 4th January. Yay!!

This morning I woke up to about 5"/13cm of snow. It was very pretty, but unfortunately complete clear on the main roads after I'd slithered my way out of the road I live in. So I was able to get to work.

cut for picture of the back garden this afternoon )

Hardly anyone was in though - I had a meeting scheduled for this morning, but both my manager and the colleague invited to the meeting live a long way away and didn't make it in. So we had our meeting via email which was much easier (and shorter!).

At midday I left as we only had a half day today. I did avoid the invitation to mince pies and mulled wine with the College Principal (attendance not compulsory!) but I'm sure he was toasted by many of the suck ups Middle Management and my presence wasn't missed.

I shall now proceed to spam you all *g*

Oh - and I have invite paid discount thingies which I'm happy to share if anyone wants one. Let me know.
