Yesterday was the 12th, so my first entry for [livejournal.com profile] monthlydiaryday is under the cut....

The snow has frozen over night so we still have quite a lot of it outside, and the roads are treacherous. Mr Cee is working at home today and was going to take Youngest Cee to the station for work (as he's feeling much better), but he couldn't get the car out of our steep driveway so YC had to walk.

Today has been really productive so far with all the carpets and rugs vacuumed, the kitchen cleaned and tidied, the breakfast out of the way all by 7.30am :)  I shall made some bread as I'm indoors and today feels like a good day to experiment with some new recipes.

We've finally got some wintery weather and here in the South East of England we've had some snow.  Only about 2-3cm (around an inch), but it looks very pretty.  It's thawing quickly though. Back in November there were dire warnings of the 'coldest winter for years' and 'three weeks of snow' which of course never materialised, and was annoying as Mr Cee asked for new snow boots for his birthday back in November which I dutifully bought him and then it was very Spring-like for weeks.  The daffodils all came out!  I'm not sure how the flowers and plants will cope and I hope this weather doesn't affect them too badly.

The cats are enjoying it though - particularly Zero who is frisking around in the garden like a puppy and coming in regularly to warm his feet up on people.

Anyway - enough of this, I promised photos of the Lumiere London lights which we went to on Friday.  More under the cut...

On Wednesday we are having our house photographed as we are taking the plunge and putting it back on the market, so the next few days I am tidying and cleaning.... more about this in another post.

Happy Sunday :)

Oh poo!

It's freezing cold outside - it's currently sleeting and keeps threatening to turn into fluffy snow. ACK!

In other news - I've just made some blueberry muffins and they are delicious. Today is not the day to worry that I have weight to loose. It's too bloody cold :(

Keep warm everyone! (not you Southern hemisphere....!)

Having snowed all day it's got quite deep! The kitties are fascinated! The patio is not as deep as we cleared it yesterday - the table shows how much we've had over the last two days.

The kittens were totally baffled this morning - the garden looks so different! They've had 30 minutes of running around and now they are inside sitting on or near the radiators!

Strange light at 8am...

I finally go around to taking a photo of our Christmas tree (clicky for bigger)

tree ornaments and the blizzard )

I also bought some silicone muffin cases yesterday. I'm eager to make some small cakes and muffins tomorrow - anyone got any delicious recipes?? :)
kazzy_cee: (ani pouring chocolate)
The last month for my 'Chocolate Heaven' calendar, and so it's the last chocolate recipe :(

Having said that it's the only recipe I've ever come across that is practically no-cook for Christmas Log, and one where you could substitute ingredients to suit any intolerances. :)

In other news most of the snow has melted from the trees now. We still have a lot of ice on the pavements and roads along where I live, but out on the main roads it's fairly clear with slush and piles of snow where it was piled up. Unfortunately the temperature is set to plummet tonight so I imagine we will have to be careful of black ice tomorrow.

We have more heavy snow forecast for Wednesday according to some websites, but nothing at all according to other websites....! Who knows! LOL!

Happy Sunday! :)

A news story featuring my local railway station earlier today.

*iz almost famous*

Today Mr Cee and I ventured out to the shops and to make sure that my Smart car (abandoned in the staff car park on Monday) was still there! We need not have worried, but I'd convinced myself that I'd left the window open, or that it had been set on fire by locals (not unheard of!) and I luff that car!

So we walked down to the town which took us about 35 minutes. It's not really stopped snowing for the last three days so it's quite deep in places, but fortunately although the trains aren't running at all, the buses are back today and we managed to get a bus home (up the really steep, long hill!).

I took some photos...

come, with me to Narnia... or at least an approximation of it )

In other news I have a virtual present from [livejournal.com profile] skybound2 thank you!
I also have a fruit platter which I hadn't been told about from [livejournal.com profile] mabel_marsters thank you!!

In other, other news - I shall be sending cards to the usual suspects, but if you'd like a card from me (no obligation to send one back!), please leave a comment to this post (they're screened).

It's over a foot high now! (30cm!).

Snow Day \0/

Snow!!

Nov. 30th, 2010 12:30 pm
kazzy_cee: (ani stickman wave)
It started snowing overnight and wasn't too bad when I set off for work this morning, but by 8.30 it was clear it was settling in for the day. Fortunately the College decided to close at 11am and I was able to catch most of our students by sending texts or phoning them to warn them. I was the only member of staff to get in anyway....!

It normally takes me 10 minutes or so to get home in the car, but after an hour of trying to get up the long hill home I gave up as the traffic was going nowhere. I turned around and slithered all the way back to work and parked my car in the car park and decided to walk home. It took me another hour to walk home trudging through the now 8" (20 cm) deep snow past the abandoned buses! The worst part was having to bring home a huge bag of student's work to mark which was f*cking heavy!!!

All in all it took me two hours to get in! Thank goodness I took my snow boots, but my coat is soaked through and I'm freezing cold! Mr Cee has come home on one of the few trains running and we're currently waiting for Youngest Cee to come in as his school is closing as 12.30.

Good news is that it's an official snow day tomorrow as regardless of the weather the roads are solid ice and public transport will not be working properly tomorrow anyway. Yay!! So after I've had a shower to warm up I'm going to make some soup and watch some TV in the warm and snuggle with Mr Cee :)

I hope everyone else is not suffering from the snow!

Look! Brrrrrrr!!!!!

Yay!!

I've been sitting here since 6.30 obsessively refreshing my work website, and FINALLY they have decided to close the College.

Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Snow day!!!!!!!!!!!!!

*wooooot*

We actually don't have that much snow at the moment (maybe 10cm/4"), but more is forecast for today and we have weather warnings for tonight as there will be very heavy snow.

Mr Cee went to the supermarket yesterday and so the cupboards are full. Mr Cee is working at home, Youngest Cee's school is shut so he's still in bed. Eldest Cee doesn't go back to University until the weekend so he's still in bed too.

I think I shall pretend my Internet isn't working..... :)
kazzy_cee: (frosty grass)
I woke up early this morning even though I don't have to go to work my brain seems to think I need to be up at 6.20am... *sighs*

The cats stay down in the kitchen at night - they have food, comfy beds and access to outside through the cat flap, so they're happy.

This morning I went downstairs and opened the door to the back garden (because cats do NOT expect to use a cat flap if there is a human around to open the door!) and I could hear a pair of owls calling in the woods at the bottom of my road.

A very haunting sound and lovely to hear this close to London!

Crikey!!

It snowed on Friday.

Then we had two gloriously sunny days with FREEZING temperatures so of course everything turned to very nasty black ice.

Then it warmed up a little bit this morning so it started to get slushy.

Then it started to rain, which turned to sleet and for the past half an hour it's been snowing big fluffy snow again!!

We've already had about 4"/10cm.

Good grief!!!!! This just isn't British!!

Oh no....

It's snowing again!!! Sleet and snow... but enough to cover the cars again.

*shakes fist* It's just not British!!!!!

*sigh*

Bloody patio was completely snow free when I got home 2 hours ago...

GAH!!!!!!!

Dear people who don't know how to drive on snow/ice in my area,

Just because there's a clear bit down the centre of the road that doesn't have snow/ice on it, doesn't mean I can drive on the snow/ice to get out of your way when you're going too fast.

Please turn on your lights when it's sleeting - I can't see you shooting around the corner if you don't have them on and get out of the way.

Please note that YOU DO NOT HAVE SNOW TYRES ON YOUR CAR - which means you should be going SLOWLY!!!! Trust me, I'm used to driving on snow having spent two winters living in Norway (with snow tyres - oh how I miss you!!). Driving along as if there is no snow/ice is asking for trouble even if you have a large four wheel drive vehicle which takes up half the road. By the way my Smartcar can't miraculously drive over the parked cars to get out of the way.

No love,
Me

Dear Local council,

You knew about this weather coming a long time in advance, so why have you run out of salt/grit for the roads?

We have a severe weather warning tonight in London and the South East. Yes, I know that the UK weather forecasters sometimes get in wrong, but snow and sleet is forecast and if it's freezing overnight there will be accidents tomorrow!!

No Love,
Me

Dear silly work colleague,

Thank you for sending me this picture of your snow art. I'm sure this will stand as a symbol to all that is ridiculous in the UK when it snows.

You made my day.

Much love
Me

Still snowed in because the roads are now sheet ice under the snow!

The teenagers are at home because the school is shut, my College is shut (\o/) and Mr Cee tried very hard to get to London, but the trains are still not running properly. He stood on a train in the station for an hour, but as there were two trains broken down ahead of him, he (and most of the other commuters) decided to give up and he came back home.
