I was supposed to be posting more often wasn't I....

Well that didn't happen for several reasons:
  • Work has got incredibly busy.  It's year-end for the academic Centres we work with and so there are qualification boards to attend which means lots of travelling around and a lot of organising.  So lunch breaks are short and days are long.  Having said that I'm still enjoying the job, so it's all good.
  • The weather is miserable which means my day off midweek has been spent clearing out cupboards, sorting through 'stuff' and cleaning because it needs it and going out is unpleasant.  Very satisfying, but tiring and doesn't allow much time for computering....
  • Weekends are busy because we've been doing a few home repairs and maintenance so Youngest Cee now has a repainted bedroom (he did most of it himself), some new furniture and the carpets and windows are clean and sparkly.
Phew!  In other news I have an interview for the brand new job they have created which if I get it means that I shall be a permanent member of staff where I am now.  Apparently a few people have applied (eep!), so it isn't a done deal.

I am reading posts on my phone, and commenting when I can, but it will be a couple of weeks before I can spend more time on here. :(

In the meantime - go here and vote to go to the [livejournal.com profile] writerconuk event next year and go here to say whether you want to join a group of us in London for a mini meet up (including a Sherlock walk) in September/October, M'kay? - oh, and pimp pls?

Saturday 23rd October looks the best date so far??

If you've already commented on the post below, just let me know if that's NOT OK otherwise I'll assume if you've said you're interested that it suits you (and put it in your diary).

Fine details for another day to let others sign up if they are interested....

Hello all - as a result of the [livejournal.com profile] writerconuk weekend event being so successful there was talk of an Lj meet-up between events.

On the way home [livejournal.com profile] lilachigh and I were talking about a visit to The Globe Theatre in London as a possible suggestion. On a nice day a walk along the river and a peer at The Golden Hind (or visit if you feel like it) could also be included and there's plenty of places to eat - or take a picnic if it's nice enough??

I've done a bit of brief research and their group rate is £9.50 per person for groups of 15 (minimum). Would anyone be interested in going on a Saturday perhaps around October time?

There's more information here.

Let me know in comments - I don't mind organising it.

The aquarium visit took place yesterday with almost everyone managing to come up to wander around the London Aquarium and then have a meal nearby.

It was lovely to see some familiar faces, and meet the owners of some familiar online names in person!!

There were many fishes to see (and touch!), much chatting to be had, and (to my relief) some very nice food in the rather hard to find Benugo restaurant where the service was relaxed, the prices reasonable for central London, and the waiters extremely honest when handed too much money for the bill! I shall be visiting there again I think.

I also got to pull faces and cuddle Baby S who was very accommodating to her mum and slept during almost all of the meal.

The only sad thing was that the weather was so miserable! Ah well - you can't have everything!

The whole experience reminded me how much fun it is to meet up with people you chat to online and how nice they always are in person.

Next stop [livejournal.com profile] writerconuk in August - it's not too late to book your ticket!

One week to go until The Rift. I hope everyone has a wonderful time.

Just over a week to go until the London Aquarium visit! The long range forecast is for sunny spells and no rain, but of course that may change it being London.....

Remember we'll be meeting at 11.15-11.30am outside the Aquarium (book tickets online means a 25% discount to the entry price (you can print out your own ticket).

Plenty of time for a slow saunter through the tanks (my favourites are the clown fish and the sea horses, and the sharks are pretty amazing!), and if we want to there should also be some time to sit and watch the London Eye and watch the boats on the river.

At 2pm we have a table booked at Benugo Bar and Kitchen in the restaurant part. The table is booked for 22 people under my real last name. If you don't know what that is, send me a message or email and I'll tell you! :)

I have found somewhere to eat that I hope will suit everyone - and I've made a booking as there wasn't a lot of choice for so many of us!

Eating out on the 27th April is going to mean we are spoilt for choice. However as there will be quite a few of us, I think it would be sensible to make sure we can sit together.

Cut for nummy treat details )
If we can narrow this down in this post, I'll put up a poll at the weekend and get more details regarding booking etc.

We have only had one enquiry about the London Eye, and [livejournal.com profile] peasant_ is not able to organise this now. Can I suggest anyone interested sorts out their own flight and we meet up either at the Aquarium or the restaurant afterwards?

So far this two week break from work has not been very much fun (no voice, migraines and general crappiness). Mr Cee now has a nasty cold and decided to take some time off work too, so we're eating far too many doughnuts and lazing around.

Which is actually quite nice.

Yesterday youngest son persuaded us that he needed new jeans because he has a party to go to on Monday.

He ended coming back with jeans that look like someone has already (a)dragged them behind a galloping horse (b)ripped them with a small knife (c)tossed them onto the rubbish dump....

*head/desk*

I made him pay for half of them - they were too expensive!!! My half is the half that it still in one piece...

In other news I have been getting software for my Smartphone which is FANTASTIC and means it now does everything I want it to do including having 2Gb of music on it! *in geek heaven*

cut for Torchwood/Dr Who rambling )

Don't forget to book your London Aquarium tickets if you're joining us on 27th!! Online booking gives you a 25% discount and fast track through the ticket office.. The plan is to meet up so that we can go into the Aquarium at 11.30, so if you have your ticket in advance that will save time.

If you're not on the list HERE please let me know.

It's been suggested that we need to book somewhere to eat - any ideas anyone??

Date: 27th April Time: 11.30 Location: London Aquarium
Prices: here and you can book online. I suggest that everyone books their own ticket so that there's no difficulty with collecting money for others.

Lots of places to eat nearby (for example just down the from the Aquarium is the Southbank Centre). Along the embankment there are 'living' statues and street entertainers.

Those that want to could also meet earlier to fly the London Eye. [livejournal.com profile] peasant_ has offered to organise this part of the trip if anyone would like to form a party for a 'flight' beforehand. It only takes half an hour and can be booked ahead online (no discount at the weekend unfortunately). Comment here and I'll pass on your name.

The Aquarium is very close to Charing Cross mainline/Embankment tube station - literally 2 minutes walk across the Golden Jubilee bridge.

Hiya!! Sorry I disappeared for a while - we had a lot of running around to do!!

the weekend )

Birthday boy! )

In other news - I have a new Spring layout. It's still really chilly in the mornings and evenings here with frost, but the spring flowers are peeking through with crocus and daffodils making the gardens look pretty in the bright sunshine during the day. ETA: I should have a Spring Layout, but for some reason the banner keeps disappearing.... I'm back to the horses until I can sort it out!!!! finally got it sorted out!! Although it still needs a tweak...

27th April meet up
Judging from the previous poll the general feeling seems to be a lunchtime meet on the 27th around 11.30am.

Now we need to decide where. Personally I think we need to be near a main tube station for ease of travelling and I'd also suggest that being near several Royal parks may offer something to do.

For example:
Kensington Gardens has Kensington Palace which is open from 10am-5pm and costs £11.10 per person in a 15 person group

Kensington Gardens also has several places to eat around it - including the Orangery at the Palace, and a range of eateries ranging from reasonable (The Park Terrace), to the ridiculously expensive!

If there are those interested in photography the spring flowers in the park are well worth seeing (there are guided tours, but not unfortunately on the 27th)

Another suggestion was doing the 'London Eye' and the South Bank which would also be fun - there is the London Aquarium very close the the Eye which is fascinating and takes about an hour to walk around with plenty of opportunities to sit and watch the HUGE fish tanks holding sharks and beautiful fish. Another fantastic opportunity for photographers. They also do party rates for groups of 10 or more.

Decision time everyone! Whatever we decide to do - I think the best option would be to include lunch as that's when we get to chat. :)

Poll for the venue - tick as many as apply )
