A very big thank you to everyone who has sent me messages/ecards and posted birthday wishes.

I have officially reached my half century which is dead scary! I had to work today, but I have taken great delight in the fact that more than a few people wouldn't believe how old I am today...

I'm assuming that the moisturisers have worked over the years, but maybe I'm just a really immature person! LOL!

Thanks again!

I am having wine tonight and have been spoiled by the family so it's been a very nice day. *g*

Cool!

I won an award, which has baffled me a little bit (although I'm really happy to get nominations of course!). I've got one of the cheerleading awards at the Rogue Poet Awards site, and I feel a bit of a fraud for getting it as I've been so absent from Lj commenting over the last few months!

Anyway I don't want to sound ungrateful, so thanks to the mysterious nomination fairy *g* for putting me forward and congratulations to all the other winners!! You can find the website here so do go and checkout the winners in the writing categories!

Lookit pretty!

Happy Hallowe'en/Samhain to those who celebrate. Here in the UK it usually signifies the first of the fireworks which will probably go on until Christmas and terrify my poor kitties. We've already had a few in a neighbour's garden and my youngest cat is now cowering under the sofa. Poor baby! Oh for some rain!! (baa-humbug)

If anyone wants some kick-ass pretty still icons of the Dresden Files TV show, then you'd better get yourselves off to [livejournal.com profile] dresden_stills where each week there are two icon competitions with anonymous voting.

There are some lovely icons there (and I just won joint second place in the most recent competition!) which are well worth a look-see.

Yay!

I've been cramming to pass an exam on Wednesday for Microsoft Access. I don't use it at work, and I've been struggling to re-learn it after many, many years of not ever opening the program. Does anyone actually use it on a regular basis??? I can't see the advantages of it over Excel really.. anyone....?

*crickets*

Huh - didn't think so....

Woot!! I won at the Forbidden awards for this icon *points to icon* Thanks to Jan for letting me know about this because my f-list reading is sadly behind the times at the moment.....

Lovely banner:

And a super comment from the judges: "kazzy_cee’s icon Tenderness is simply wonderful. kazzy_cee takes one of the most tender of moments in Spike and Buffy’s relationship and captures it forever. The color and feeling of it just make you feel warm and loved when you see it.

Awwww!!! *blushes and shuffles foot on the floor*

Today I shall be mostly yawning and doodling learning stuff at the first of three seminars for work.

I have no idea what exactly I'm letting myself in for as most of this is supposed to be done online (60 hours between now and June), but at least I get to meet the other victims students today and get a free lunch.

I have to go to Croydon for the day and I get to drive my new toy... heeee!!! almost makes it worth going

I won a pretty banner for the Movie challenge at [livejournal.com profile] manippers with my Fantastic Four version of Spike

Look!

and I was having far too much fun playing with movie posters and made a Spike!Sin City one today instead of doing anything more constructive because it was too damn hot! A sweltering 33 degrees C in my back garden *melts*

Realised I'd not posted up a couple of manips and awards.

Pretty banners with originals under the cut, and also a Spike manip.

This one from [livejournal.com profile] non_stop_james had a competition for a new community 'holidays with James' Lj header. I came 2nd and got this pretty banner:

Original header HERE

[livejournal.com profile] darker_spike ran a 'vintage challenge' this month which I won this award:

large stuff and awards! )

It's really hot here today, and I'm sitting here drinking lots and lots of water to keep hydrated. So I made some icons in case anyone else would like a reminder of hot weather good practice (with apologies to all those 'down under' who are just going into the winter!)...

25 icons under here )

And why you should drink lots of water:

WATER
1. 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated. (Likely applies to half world population.)
2. In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so weak that it is often mistaken for hunger.
3. Even MILD dehydration will slow down your metabolism as much as 3%.
4. One glass of water will shut down midnight hunger pangs for almost 100% of the dieters studied in a University of Washington study.
5. Lack of water, the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue.
6. Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses of water a day could significantly ease back and joint pain for up to 80% of sufferers.
7. A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on the computer screen or on a printed page.
8. Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of colon cancer by 45%, plus it can slash the risk of breast cancer by 79%, and one is 50%less likely to develop bladder cancer.

Are you drinking the amount of water you should every day?

In other news - I won an award over at [livejournal.com profile] darker_spike, for the Eqyptian challenge for this artwork (click for bigger)
