Every year at writerconuk I put together a 'virtual' art show which is shown during the 'quiet bits' of the weekend via a laptop and a projector.

Normally we run a competition for story banners, but we did that last year and I don't think anyone actually wrote anything for the banners submitted (such as shame as there were some lovely ones!). So this year I'm asking for contributions for the art show. These can be any wallpapers, story arts, manips (but not icons which are too small) from any fandom. These can be brand new or 'oldies'.

What I need - please point me towards any outstanding artwork you've come across this year. I like to credit contributing artists in the programme as a courtesy and get their permission to show their artwork at the event and no-one's work is printed out.

So far I have the following fandoms represented, but I don't want this to turn into 'Karen's favourites'! So I need you to let me know if there are artworks you've seen in your fandoms that we could use. Remember I like to ask for permissions, so sooner rather than later would be great as writerconuk is on 5th August!

However, posting today from Dreamwidth as it's driving me CRAZY trying to post anything on Lj at the moment. The pages just aren't co-operating.

Which is why comments are not happening (sorry!!), of if they are they are hap-hazard...

I have two weeks off *bliss*.  I do have work related things to do, but after the last few months it's lovely not to have to do anything if I don't want to. :)

The only downside to this was the Mr Cee had his bicycle stolen from the railway station bike shed last Friday. :(  This is the second bike that's been stolen from there... thank goodness for insurance!!

So - a couple of questions:

1. iPad users - what do you use it for?  I have the money to buy one burning a hole in my pocket, but I can't see what I would use it for, and it's an expensive 'toy' not to be used.  I have an iPhone and a Kindle and I use them every day.  Thoughts?
2. Anyone want an icon? I feel the need to do some iconing - but I lack inspiration.  I've made a few which I will post later, but I'd like to make some more.  Theme, subject or screencaps/pictures if you would like one pls.  Comment either at Dw or Lj.
3. Can you cross post from Lj to Dw??  Automatically??  I don't mean importing, I mean like you can on Dw to Lj...

I don't think I'm going to have the energy to go up to London on Friday at this rate. I've knackered my back and this week is shaping up to be along the same lines as last week - which means by Friday I'm going to be dead on my feet.

Much as I'd like to see Jameses - in all honesty I'd much rather have gone to see him on the Saturday, and I took too long to decide about that, so missed my chance.

Ack - I have been crap!rubbish at commenting, and reading has been done in a hurry, so I'm sorry if I've not been around much.

This week was HORRIBLE!! I've decided having three jobs is not such a good idea, especially as one job seems to have turned into what should be a much higher paid job. My three month probationary interview is late (I had to chase them up) so I might mention this.

Also:

• I've not heard whether my contract will be renewed after 10th July

• We still don't know if we'll have to move to a different building in September

• iPhone Apps are totally addictive (I may need counselling!) lol!

• Twitter is more fun than Facebook and I have an App to check it on my phone

• travelling on the train and Tube to and from London is HORRIBLE in hot weather (stinky sweaty people pls find out about deoderant kthnx!) I'm grateful I only had to do this one day this week for a training thingy. Having said that - Camden Town has lovely places to buy food!

• I ♥ my Virgin+ box, without which I would have missed all my favourite shows

• Ashes to Ashes shows promise, looking forward to the next episode

• It's been a lovely sunny week

It's sunny!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So far it's been a lovely weekend, although today started very dull and I was wondering if it would cheer up.

Fortunately it did!

And now I must stop procrastinating and get on with the marking I have to give back to students tomorrow.... which I should have done last week.. *sighs*

Wow - so finally there is an actual case where the people providing access to bit torrents have been charged and fined. More here. (Thanks to debauched_angel for the link.)

I suspect this will open the doors to lots of other sources of illegal downloads being prosecuted too (or charging for the material as Napster ended up doing). I think it's a good thing - especially now when money to make new movies/music etc is limited.

Why shouldn't people be paid for their talent?

In other news - I went horse riding this morning despite having a gazillion things I need to sort out for Monday when I'm back at work. Ah well the weekend will be a panic situation I think. One day I'll be a grown up and do work stuff when I should do work stuff and not leave it all to the last minute!

In other, other news - this arrived today, and it's gloopy and smells lovely (I got the yellow one) and it really DOES clean all the little crevasses in the keyboard! :) There's a video and everything! Squishy fun!

Also I would love to write copy for that website - it's just so cool.

I've just remembered I've got to write four 3,000 word essays during this two week break.... eeek - I'd forgoten completely!!
